I would like to introduce you to the newest member of our family....

We have a new member in out family. "Santa" brought her Christmas morning. She is amazing! She is doing very well with potty training and is a great little gal. Her name is "Kennedy" as in First Lady Jaqueline Onasis Kennedy. The kids were given naming rights and this is what they came up with. We have begged my husband for 15 years for a dog. He finally gave in. We overheard him sweet talking her outside! What a hoot! Kennedy is a Piebald Dashund.

I have the after Christmas blues. Every year that my teenagers get older it gets harder to let go of the holiday. I try to cherich every moment. I know every thing has it's time and season but I am not ready to let go.
I hope you all have a wonderful and blessed New Year!

Lordy, Lordy I survived turning 40!

Girls I did it! I suvived my 40th birthday and it wasn't so bad after all. It doesn't feel so bad...except for the nasty cold and sinus infection that came with it!
I have been blessed with wonderful family and friends and they made my day very special!
I want to wish all of you a Merry Christmas! I know there are many who are hurting this Christmas. This time of year can be very hard on those of you who have lost loved ones and many people have lost there jobs. My thought and prayers are with all of you this holiday season wherever you are. I hope you have a blessed holiday.
Much Love,
Daisy Rae

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas........

When the moon becomes a snowball
and stars twinkle on the trees,
When we tell our friends we love
them along with our families,
When everyone bakes cookies and
gives most of them away,
That's when the spirit of Christmas has come and blessed our day.

Welcome to our humble home. Come on in and take a peek. We fill it each year with love and memories. It may not seem like much to few but we love it. The red room is my teenage daughter's. She loves theatre and we tried to reflect her personality in her tree. One of my favorite decorations is my wire tree. I am collecting vintage ornaments for it. Please excuse the nasty cords showing. I have since fixed that. I just hate it when cords are showing...... I found the Velvet Santa below at a local antique store. I just love him! Thanks so much for visiting.

No reindeer antlers or light up sweaters for me...Black Friday in Hickville, USA

I got up at 3:30 this morning and went shopping. It has always been a tradition on Black Friday. I have to get out with the crazy women who wear reindeer antlers and big gawdy light -up Christmas sweaters. As much as I love Christmas I refuse to wear those antlers or those light up sweaters! I shopped for 14 hours straight. Just when I thought I couldn't shop anymore I got a hot giant pretzel and then I felt I could go on. I went on and on......... I felt like the Energizer rabbit. I took a licking and kept on ticking. You might ask Girl "Why are you blogging?" It is because I am too sore and tired to walk or talk and I may sleep in the chair I am sitting in!

Last year on Black Friday I went to Target at 5am. The women were waiting in line with those light up antlers and sweaters. It was about 30 degrees outside. As soon as the Target man unlocked the door the women grabbed a cart and ran with the carts as fast as their legs could go. I started laughing at these women and almost peed my pants. The laugh was on me! I didn't get any of the early bird specials because they hogged them all up. These women were on serious mission. This is no recreational activity I learned. Today as a matter of fact 2 women in my hometown were arrested at Wal-Mart because they were fighting over the last item on a special! Darn, I missed the drama there! This definately gives a new meaning to "I'd kill for that!" or Shop till you drop!"

I have decided Thanksgiving is a mans holiday . The women cook and clean for days while the men graze and waller around on the floor . Then, to top it off, they watch football the live long day. Don't get me wrong I don't mind to give them this day to the men because on Black Friday I am going to shop until I can no longer walk and spend a ton of money. This is the only time of year that I spurge. I am normally very thrifty. I hardly spend any money all year long.

Tomorrow, I will start putting up all my Christmas stuff. It takes me nearly 2 weeks to get everything just right. I am looking forward to this time with my family and all the festivities. My oldest daughter is in a Madrigal choir and she will perform at a Madrigal dinner. I am looking so...forward to this. Please forgive me for skipping around from subject to subject that is the way that my mind works. I think I have adult add.......LOL

Christmas through the eyes of a 4 year old

I have been getting Abigail ready to go to Disney World with her grandparents. You should see the sparkle in her eye when she talks about meeting Mickey Mouse. Wouldn't it be great to see life through the eyes of a 4 year old? I will sure miss her when she is away.
As I put up the Christmas decorations her little face reminds me of what Christmas is all about.
Even though we live in uncertain times. I am going to make sure that this is the best Christmas ever. I hope when my children grow up they will remember the smell of Christmas goods baking ,sounds of music, love and excitement in the air.
I can never sleep on Christmas Eve. I get so excited putting out the reindeer food, cookies for Santa and reading "The night before Christmas before bed. I will always cherish these magical times with my kids.
This is the last Christmas that my oldest daughter will still be a minor. This is very hard on me . Where did the time go? Just yesterday she was 4. I hope she will always remember to think of those who are less fortunate and keep Christ in Christmas. I know she will still be home for Christmas but it still breaks my heart to let her go. Sorry, Christmas makes me so sappy...sniff sniff

Contentment Therapy

This weekend I attended a cancer fundraiser for my cousin Randy. He is 44 and has Melanoma skin cancer. It seems like yesterday we were all boating and having a great time. In a instant his life was forever changed. His wife was hospitalized this week and her mother passed away last week. Life is so precious and I now am faced of the reality of this.
Today, the carpet I hate doesn't bother me as much or the material things that my heart desires. My cousin would give any material item to have his health back. Sometimes it take a tragedy like this to make one realize how precious life is and to appreciate the simple things that life has to offer. I have taken the time today to savor the smiles of my children and be thankful for the wonderful friends and family that I have been blessed with.

Girls! I have been robbed again!

I have had my personal space violated once again. We woke up this morning to my husbands truck windows broken and our garage windows broken. We have had documents stolen that jeopardize our identities. Please pray for our family this evening we are very uneasy tonight. The people who have done this are not fazed that we live in clear view of the police station. Many others in our neighborhood were robbed and vandalized last night. I thank the Lord for protecting our family last night. I am ready if they come back with a loaded gun!

I hope to have a happy blog soon!

Goodbye to Summer.......

I cannot believe that fall is here. It was so cold last night that I had to turn on the heat. We haven't had a frost yet, but it wont be long. I love fall but I am not looking forward to winter. One of my favorite things to do in the fall is visit Anderson's Orchard. It is a beautiful farm with rolling hills of apple trees, pond and a apple barn with delicious jellies, elephant ears and cobblers.

I am just not ready to let go of summer ......... I love to go boating with my cousins at Dale Hollow. There is no place like it. If you have never been, I highly recommend it!

Can it be that hard...yes it can

Ok, this week I decided that I want a luscious green yard and that I am going to follow my friend Lisa's tips. I went and bought the Scott's fertilizer for fall. I poured it into the Scott's spreader. I read the directions 3 times. I felt confident at this point. My spreader has a flower guard on it . Well, the stuff was flying out everywhere and the guard was always on the wrong side. I just know my yard will be jacked up and my flowers and bushes will be dead. Good thing they are going to die soon anyway. The grass will probably be real green in spots and dead in others. I tried to follow the tracks of where I had been. I turn 40 in December and my eyes are not what they used to be. I guess I will wait and see. I really needed Tootsie to help me with some straight lines. Tootsie's yard always looks like a golf course and I want mine to look that way too.
I have hired professionals before but they never did it to my satisfaction. I actually caught them spraying the front and not the back...little stinkers. I rely wanted to show my husband that I could do it. I guess time will tell.

Haven Of Rest

I just returned from a relaxing 3 days at The Haven of Rest( you can click on the pic on my sidebar). It is located in the boon docks near Crofton, KY. The property has been my favorite place since I was a young child. The land has been in my family for many years and is now owned by my sweet Aunt Gail.
When my aunt and her family first moved to the "country" the only thing that stood was a old log cabin and a few old barns. They did not have running water or electricity. This way of life was a choice for them. They could have lived anyplace that they wanted. They had a real passion for the land. They worked night and day and built a nice home, all by themselves. They now have electricity, water and phones. I believe it took 7 years or so.
After my cousin Renita grew up she built Haven of Rest. It is nestled in the woods. She no longer lives in the cabin. She is now renting it out so others may enjoy it.
My Aunt has prayed for many years that the property could be used for the Lord. The cabin is used many times by ladies retreats and missionaries. I enjoy the peace that I feel there. It is definitely a place that has been blessed by God.
I feel like a new person this week. It was much needed time away from Main Street USA.

The greatest gift of all....

My brother and I have a $30.00 limit for exchanging gifts at Christmas. You can imagine my surprise when I arrived at my parents and there was a big tarp hanging. They made me wait until last before I could look behind the tarp. I was so surprised! My brother had hand-crafted/designed this beautiful bed for me. It took him a couple months to build. He sanded every piece of Cedar making it smooth and then torched all of it for a weathered look. I got him a sweat suit.... Gifts from the heart are the best. I will always treasure the bed and it is sure to be a family heirloom.

Abigail golfing...

My 4 year old daughter Abigail has developed a obsession with her golf clubs. She is constantly wanting to go to the driving range and to the golf course. She must take that from her dad. I don't know how to golf but I am going to sign up for lessons this week. I'll let you know how that goes.

Dont' get me wrong I LOVE my children but I must say I am having a sigh of relief that school has started. I don't know where the summer has gone. I am worn out from the constant running and worrying that goes along with teenagers. I will enjoy a little break and some time alone with Abigail.

My sweet potato plants have taken over...........

Good Morning!
It is a wonderful cool morning here this morning. My sweet potato plants have taken over but I don't mind. I sure have gotten my money's worth from them. If you take a start of of them you can stick it into another pot and it will grow. It will droop at first but be patient it will grow and grow...
I also took a few new pics of Abigail's playhouse. This is the first time that I have planted sunflowers. I love them. I can't believe they came from a little seed. I feel they are a little reminder of God smiling down on us. My great grandfather had them and they remind me of him.
Have a great Day!

Have you ever heard of a bottle tree?

A few weeks ago my mother- in-law was on a quest for bottles for a bottle tree. I had no clue what a bottle tree was. The next thing you know my father in law dropped off a locust post so that I could have a bottle tree of my own. I have had such a good time looking for unique and pretty bottles. The tree on the bottom is the one I have started.( I'm sorry it's sideways) The other two are of my MIL's bottle tree. At some point I will post some pictures of her lovely home. I know bottle trees aren't for everyone but I sure have had fun with it. I am not at all superstitious. I just love the beauty of the sun hitting all of the bottles in the garden.

The following is from Wikpedia
-Bottle trees originated in Northern Africa during a period when superstitious people believed that a genii or imp could be captured in a glass bottle. Legend had it that empty glass bottles placed outside the home could "capture" roving spirits at night, and the spirit would be destroyed the next day in the sunshine. This practice was taken to Europe and North America by African slaves. The practice of hanging bottles in trees became widespread in the Southern states of North America, where they continue to be used today as colorful garden ornaments.
Bottle trees have been featured as accessories in most of the prestigious flower show garden displays all over the world.
Additionally, glass bottles, which have long been placed in windows for color ("poor man's stained glass"), are also commonly used to line flower beds.
